In 2018 the largest number of new Members of Congress were elected since the 1970's, with 111 newly elected taking the oath of office. Out of 111 Freshmen elected to the 116th Congress, Congressman San Nicolas is among only 15 Members who passed a Bill onto law so far this term.
Specifically Congressman San Nicolas's milestone was achieve passing H.R. 1365, which enabled federal War Claims payments to be made to eligible claimants.
As we enter the last month of the 3rd quarter of 2020, the Office of Congressman San Nicolas wished to provide an update on federal War Claims payments.
"The U.S. Treasury has been doing an excellent job processing claims as soon as they are adjudicated and their payment details certified by the claimant," opened Congressman San Nicolas. "To date 485 adjudicated claims are still awaiting claimant responses on their payment certifications, and we urge our claimants to do so in order for Treasury to process their payment," Congressman San Nicolas added.
War Claims Payments enters final stages for adjudicated claims.
Congressman San Nicolas received word from the United States Department of the Treasury that it is sending out letters to all claimants who received final award letters from the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission, who have not executed an assignment agreement with the Government of Guam. The letter from the Treasury will explain the payment process and enclosed will have a payment voucher that the claimants must complete and return to the Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service in order to receive payments.

"At a time of such anxiety, on an issue of such gravity, let this symbolize the hope and courage we must have today that our greatest generation displayed nearly 80 years ago. May God bless Guam, the United States, and all people everywhere."
